Requesting a rescore

If you wish to challenge your score, you may request a rescore for a fee. Before doing this, you should take the following into consideration:

  • While the PTE test is a machine-scored test, a rescore is carried out by a human scorer. This means that a human expert will rescore your entire test and the new score will replace your old one.

  • It is important you understand that your score could go down as well as up. Your new score will always overwrite your old score, and you will no longer be able to use your previous score. This may affect the outcome of the applications you wish to make, so be sure to consider the consequences of receiving a lower score before you request a rescore.

  • If your overall or communicative skills scores change, the rescore fee will be refunded. Note that the test payment will not be refunded.

  • If your score changes, it will replace your previous score immediately and your original score report will be reissued to reflect the new score. Your old score report will no longer be available.

  • If you are considering requesting a rescore, you should do so before sharing your score in any applications you are making.

  • It is your responsibility to inform an institution of any change in your score if you have already shared it.

  • Your institution can only verify your score through the secure Pearson system.

  • You can only request a rescore once per test registration.

  • You may only request a rescore of your most recent PTE test.

  • You cannot request a rescore if you have already scheduled another test.

  • The fee for requesting a rescore is $160 USD.

Requesting a technical review

If you believe that your reported speaking score was affected by a technical issue, you may request a technical review. This service will check for any technical issues in your audio recordings that may have caused an inaccurate score. Before doing this, you should take the following into consideration: 

  • The technical review service will not change your scores. Only a rescore, which is a different service, could do so.

  • If you would like to apply for a rescore, which is a different service, please see ‘Requesting a rescore' above.

  • The fee for the technical review service is $50 USD, which must be paid before the service commences. Depending on your location, transaction fees may occur.

  • If the technical review indicates that there were no technical issues in your audio recordings, you will be informed and you will not be refunded your technical review fee or your test fee. You retain the right to book a new test at your own cost.

  • If the technical review identifies technical issues in your audio recordings, your test fee will be refunded. If you used a voucher to pay for your test, a free credit voucher will be provided. Your technical review fee will also be refunded.

  • The outcome of a technical review will be shared with you within 15 business days of Pearson receiving payment for your request.

To request a technical review, please call our Customer Support team. Requests for a technical review must be made within 15 business days of your receiving your test results.

Malpractice

Where we identify a reasonable suspicion of malpractice during a rescore or technical review, the suspected malpractice will be processed according to our malpractice policy. Any suspected malpractice could result in the suspension or revocation of your test score and a ban on future testing.
