PTE Appeals Policy
Before making an appeal you must have undergone a rescore, technical review or received a malpractice decision (e.g. your score has been revoked and/or your account has been banned).
You can make an appeal if:
We have shared the outcome of a rescore or technical review, and you believe that we have not complied with our own internal procedures
We have made a decision related to malpractice – including a decision to revoke your score – and you believe that we have not complied with our own internal procedures
The appeals procedure will review whether:
We have adhered to the internal procedures
Our internal procedures were applied properly and fairly in arriving at judgements
Our activities were consistent with regulatory requirements
Important: please note that the appeals process focuses on reviewing whether our procedures were correctly followed. The process does not involve any re-assessment of your test.
If you decide to appeal one of our decisions, you should do so by completing our customer service form. Please select the type of appeal you want to request by selecting from the applicable dropdown options (either ‘Rescore or technical review appeal’ or ‘Malpractice appeal’).
We must receive the completed form within 15 business days of you receiving your rescore, technical review or malpractice decision from Pearson.
You will then be required to call customer service to make the payment of $120 USD within 48 hours of submitting your application. Otherwise, your application will be null. This fee will be refunded if your appeal is successful.
Stage One appeal cases are reviewed by a Pearson assessment expert who has not been involved in any previous investigations relating to the case. Based on the result of this review, the appeal will then either be upheld or dismissed.
We will share the appeals outcome with you within 30 business days from when you have made the payment.
If you wish to challenge the outcome of your Stage One appeal, you may apply for a Stage Two appeal by completing our customer service form. Please select the type of appeal you want to request by selecting from the applicable dropdown options (either ‘Rescore or technical review appeal’ or ‘Malpractice appeal’).
We must receive the completed form within 15 business days of you receiving the outcome of your Stage One appeal.
You will then be required to call customer service to make the payment of $150 USD within 48 hours of submitting your application. Otherwise, your application will be null. This fee will be refunded if your appeal is successful. Please note that a Stage Two appeal will not be considered if a Stage One appeal has not been completed first.
All Stage Two appeal cases are reviewed by an independent reviewer who has not been involved in any previous investigations relating to the case. The independent reviewer will review the steps that were taken to complete the stage one appeal investigation as detailed in the Stage One appeal section of this document.
We will share the appeals outcome with you within 30 business days from when you have made the payment.
The decision of the Stage Two appeal is final. There are no further appeal stages.
