Measured against the Global Scale of English
PTE Academic is scored against the Global Scale of English – a granular score scale from 10–90. Students receive an overall score on this scale, which gives an accurate assessment of their English ability.

Understanding automated scoring
Our automated scoring system is based on complex algorithms that were trained by testing a data sample of over 10,000 students with over 120 native languages.
We fed thousands of human marks into our system and now find that the standard error measurement between our system and a human rater is less than between one human rater to another. Hear our experts talk about automated scoring via YouTube or view our white paper.
Understanding the Score Report
With PTE Academic, students receive a detailed picture of their language proficiency, covering their overall English score, as well as scores for individual sub-skills.
Each report shows:
An overall score (from 10–90)
Communicative skills scores (for Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing)
Enabling skills scores (for grammar, spelling, oral fluency, vocabulary, and written discourse)
