UK Border Agency approves PTE General and PTE Academic for migrant partners

17 August 2010

We are pleased to announce that the UK Border Agency (UKBA) has formally approved Pearson Test of English General (PTE General) and Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) as fully satisfying the government’s criteria for English language proficiency for non-European migrants wishing to enter or remain in the UK as a partner of a British citizen or settled person.

It was announced on 26 July 2010 that English language tests will be compulsory for non-European migrants applying to come to the UK to join or marry their settled partner from 29 November 2010. From this date, any migrant who wants to enter or remain in the UK as the partner of a British citizen or a person settled here will need to show that they can speak and understand English, by taking an approved English language test. The tests will be compulsory for people applying from within the UK and for visa applicants from overseas.
